What's the issue?

Hunger and malnutrition have lethal effects. More than 820 MILLION people do not have enough food to eat. Every 3.6 seconds, one life will be lost to starvation. Many of those lives are children and 50% under the age of 5 lose their lives to hunger every year. About 465 people in the world are underweight and 17 million are severely wasted. A small donation can make a big difference to the lives of those affected by war, famine, natural disasters, and displacement.

How will this campaign help solve the problem?

The aim of our Feed Our World Program is to meet hunger needs across the world, and domestically. We provide life-saving, nutritious meals, and food security programming to families most in need. These meals help combat hunger poverty in crisis-hit countries across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East as well as right here at home.
No food pack is the same. We tailor each pack to suit the local needs of communities. A food pack in Syria can include items such as rice, white sugar, sunflower oil, spaghetti, salt, lentils, burgal wheat, tomato paste, canned meat, and black tea.
A small food pack lasts for 10 days, for an average family of 5-6 members. A large food pack lasts for one month, for an average family of 5-6 members. Specific contents will vary based on location: the items will be based on locally available and culturally relevant produce and the context of each country.
In addition, Penny Appeal will be adapting to the ongoing needs by delivering hygiene essentials in over 50% of the FOW food distribution countries. These include five countries where we are already implementing hygiene kit distributions through our Coronavirus Emergency appeal (Palestine, Uganda, Pakistan, Syria, and Turkey) along with eight other countries (Afghanistan, Djibouti, Indonesia, Kashmir, Lebanon, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen) in which hygiene kits will be distributed as part of Feed Our World.

Which countries will benefit?

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Djibouti, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eswatini (Swaziland), Indonesia, Kashmir, Lebanon, Lesotho, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Syria, Turkey, Uganda, United States, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

How much does a kit cost?
