Cataracts: preventable blindness in Kenya

In Kenya, thousands and thousands of people - from children to senior citizens - are blind from cataracts.

What are cataracts?

A cataract is a clouding of the eye's lens which leads to a decrease in vision, slowly developing into blindness. With cataracts, there's a small window of time wherein if you remove the cataract the person can see perfectly once again, but miss that moment, and the person remains permanently blind.

The good news: removing cataracts is a simple surgery!

In developed countries this is routine. 

However, in developing countries like Kenya, these surgeries are difficult or even impossible to get, especially in rural areas.

Therefore, UMR and Muslims of the World have partnered up and brought a team of doctors to a very rural part of Kenya (Wajir) to deliver these surgeries for free!
