What is Penny Appeal Canada's Thirst Relief Program?

By contributing to the Thirst Relief, you can help give those in need of fresh and safe drinking water. Every human deserves to have access to clean drinking water yet around 29% of the world's population does not have access. By contributing you will not only provide fresh clean water to some of the most impoverished areas of the world but Penny Appeal hopes to use the funds towards WASH programs in which they help communities have better water, sanitation, and hygiene, which ultimately help eradicate the spread of diseases and water contamination. ​

What is the problem?

Around the world, over 785 million people don’t have access to clean, safe water.  1.5 million people die from dirty water each year, including 5,000 children DAILY. If something isn’t done, thousands of lives will be needlessly lost. This is where your small contributions can make a Big Difference. 

What is Penny Appeal Canada doing to provide clean water to communities?

The Thirst Relief program provides entire communities not only with the simple gift of clean water, but also a pathway out of poverty. Dependable access to safe, clean water means that drinking, cooking, washing, watering crops, hydrating animals, and making wudu no longer come with the threat of disease.

Penny Appeal Canada’s Thirst Relief program seeks to bring fresh water access to some of the most impoverished communities in the world. We focus on clean water solutions such as Deep Tube Wells, Rainwater Harvesting Systems, and Solar Powered Water Centres which not only provide running water to the homes of up to 1,500 people and 1,000 livestock but also supply electricity and power to schools and places of worship in the community! 

We also focus heavily on our WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) program. This provides not only clean water access, bathrooms, etc., but education for the community on the importance of water hygiene and best practices.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon Him) said, ‘Allah the Exalted and Glorious, will say on the Day of Resurrection, “O son of Adam, I asked you for something to drink but you did not give it to me.” He will say, “O Lord, how can I give You something to drink when You are the Lord of the worlds?” Allah (SWT) will say, “My servant so-and-so asked you to give him something to drink and you did not give it to him. Had you given him something to drink, you would have surely found that with me.” Hadith Qudsi 18
