Tahira Hussain's Story

Tahira Hussain, a 34-year-old resident of Multan, has been suffering from a decline in her vision. This decline has been increasing gradually, and now it is becoming difficult for her to do even the most basic of tasks. Tahira is partially blind in her right eye. She has been suffering from Cataract, which is a clouding of the clear lens that eventually interferes with vision. To treat this condition, the doctor has advised Tahira to undergo a right phaco and IOL surgery. Phacoemulsification, or phaco, is a method of cataract surgery in which the eye’s internal lens is emulsified using ultrasonic energy and replaced with an intraocular lens implant, or IOL.

Unfortunately, Tahira’s husband has abandoned her and she lives with her brother who works as butcher. They can’t afford the hefty cost of this surgery. Their monthly income is just PKR 15,000. With a family of five to support, Tahira’s brother is in no position to pay for her surgery. Her brother told us:
