Kijana Kwanza (Young People First) supports orphaned children and young people in Moshi, Tanzania with shelter, education and life skills training. We currently sponsor and feed over 150 children and young people costing us £38,000/$50,000 per year. With your donation, $25 USD will plant ten fruit trees to support these children.
To achieve our dream, we need funds to:
This includes children like Patrick, a child slave, who was rescued by our Social Worker, Halima, a street child, whose parents died from HIV, Karimu, who was raped by his neighbour and ran away from home, and Agatha who became a child bride at just 12 years old.
At Kijana Kwanza, children and young people have a safe place to live, learn and grow. This includes receiving healthy meals, since many arrive suffering from malnutrition.
But as the number of children in our care soars, we're struggling to meet the cost of providing good quality, balanced meals including protein, dairy and plenty of fruit and vegetables.
But we have a solution - our very own farm!
We plan to purchase a 6-acre plot close to our shelter that will provide ample space to cultivate maize and beans, grow vegetables and plant fruit trees. We will also keep dairy cows and poultry to provide a regular supply of milk and eggs.
But we need your help to purchase the land, install outbuildings and livestock sheds, and plant seeds and saplings. Any surplus will be sold at the market to purchase ingredients we are unable to grow on-site. Imagine how much money we could save - and how many more people we could help!
Your donation will not only feed a child today, but hundreds of children and young people for generations to come.
What's more - our farm will provide work experience and vocational training in agriculture for young people and host international volunteers who want to make a sustainable impact, whilst transforming lives in Moshi, Tanzania.
Help us achieve this ambitious goal today.
Campaign Update (March 2023)
With the support of LaunchGood donors, we have now purchased a 6-acre plot, fenced the land and planted fruit trees around the perimeter. We've named is it Shabaha Farm. Take a tour of the site here:
With the effects of climate change, we cannot rely on rainfall. So we've also started to dig a deep water well for irrigation.
It's over 100m in depth tunnelling through volcanic rock - we are after all on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's tallest summit!
With your support (and some help from Farmer Idrisa!), we can provide a sustainable food solution for orphaned children and young people in Moshi, Tanzania.
Please give generously, and we can't wait for you to visit our farm. Karibuni sana! (You are warmly welcome)

Our First Crop
Nane Nane (literally meaning 'Eight ') is a national holiday in Tanzania on 8 August each year, which recognises the contribution of farmers to the nation.
Over 80 children and young people sponsored by Kijana Kwanza are spending the day volunteering on Shabaha Farm to harvest 7-acres of maize crop.
This is the first ever major harvest on our farm, and brings Kijana Kwanza one step closer to achieving our 5 year goal of becoming food sustainable.
Happy Nane Nane Day and thank you for donating towards making this possible. We are now fundraising to purchase Dairy Cows for Shabaha Farm so please give at: http://launchgood.com/dairycow
Twenty homeless orphans need your help ...
Whoopee!
Thank you so much for supporting our appeal to build a farm that will provide food for orphaned children who live at Kijana Kwanza. Imagine never having to donate again to feed these children because we have a sustainable solution!
Over 2,000 people have supported this appeal so far, but we need $10,000 to complete the fencing around our 6 acre farm to protect it from intruders (in particular roaming goats and cows who want to eat our seedlings!)
If every existing donor gives just $5 more this weekend - or gets a friend to donate $5 - we will hit our target before the end of the month. Wouldn't that be amazing?
Please give one last time - and share our appeal with your friends. We can't wait to welcome you to Moshi, Tanzania to visit our farm in action.
New Farmland
With your support we have purchased this amazing plot, which we will develop as a farm to feed orphaned children and young people in Tanzania.
Check out the view - at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest summit.
Farmer Idrisa is already on site installing fencing around the 6 acre plot and digging to plant fruit trees around the perimeter of the land.
We need your help to continue donating and sharing our appeal - our children are so excited and so are we.
For more information don't hesitate to get in touch with us by email or WhatsApp.

Amazing News
But we have only reached halfway through our appeal as we still need funds to dig a well, build some outbuildings/sheds for livestock and buy farming tools and seeds.
This is a unique project that we will ensure that all the orphaned children who live at our shelter will have high quality nutritious meals – and it won’t cost us anything. In fact, we expect a small surplus of harvest, which we can sell to provide education and training for the children.
We now need YOUR help to reach the next stage.
If just 50 people volunteer to raise $500 in the next week, we will have hit our target.
Are you up for the challenge?
We can’t wait to welcome you to Moshi, Tanzania to see our farm in action.
Yours,
Mohammed S Mamdani
